“It was a great week.” My church group stayed at the Bear Lodge and the experience more then met our expectations. The lodge was great surrounded by an awesome view. There was no issues the whole week but I did call Ruth one time for a favor and she was happy to help out which I greatly appreciated. We look forward to coming back as soon as we can.

“Loved Deer Lodge” We really enjoyed our stay at Deer Lodge. It was perfect for our family of 4 families. We were there with our son the night before his wedding and what a coincidence that the plaque on the bedroom walls said that the furnishing were from a family from the same town our son was born in. We would love to visit Deer Lodge again someday.

“The perfect solution!” This was a perfect location for our family gathering. A gorgeous setting with comfortable, private bedroom/bathrooms for each family, roomy dining and gathering areas, lots of space to romp for the little ones, and a terrific kitchen that made feeding all of us reasonably priced and easily accomplished. All very accessible to offsite activities... although we were all content to stay onsite some days and enjoy our time together there.

“Peaceful Hideaway” My husband and I stayed at "Bearfoot 2" for our 1st anniversary (or "Honeyversary", as we like to call it)! It was perfect! First off, the town that the cabin is in is so quaint and quiet. Just perfect! We roll up to our cabin (up a 45deg angle to get there- so thrilling!), and we are beaming! The overlook is wonderful, the porch is nice, cool and relaxing, and the hot tub, of course my favorite, was a huge perk! The inside of the cabin was perfect as well. Very cozy, perfect for 2 people. We loved the Jacuzzi in the bedroom (um...don't put too many bath bubbles in a Jacuzzi tub! They multiply much faster than in a normal tub! ha!) Very romantic! The renters even left some Dvds that you can watch on a nice flat screen TV in case you need a little down time at night. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with items you might need. There's a nice grill outside that was useful to us. Overall, it was a great stay! We have been talking about the wonderful cabin ever since we returned! We had such a great "Honeyversary"! We definitely recommend this affordable Romantic Get-Away!

About Townsend

Known as one of the gateways to the Great Smoky Mountains, Townsend, Tennessee has everything you need for a relaxing getaway. With a number of options for outdoor sports and adventure, several great local museums and cultural attractions, and some of the best Southern cuisine in the area, this charming town has it all! The most popular restaurants and shopping can be found along Depot Street, but the main attractions are scattered throughout the city, so be sure to explore all of Townsend.

While you're in the area, try to make time for some of these must-see sites and activities as well:

  • Great Smoky Mountains National Park: With over 500,000 acres of property, 800 miles of trails and 1,400 species of plants, this huge piece of wilderness is the quintessential Townsend experience.
  • Echobrooke Farm: Stroll through the countryside in a horse-drawn carriage and stop for a picnic or candlelit dinner along the way.
  • Mountain Sage Gallery: This popular local gallery features the work of some of the finest artisans in East Tennessee.
  • Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center: Dedicated to preserving the heritage and culture of the mountain communities in East Tennessee, this center houses many Native American artifacts and historic structures.
  • Go Tubing: Spend a fun-filled day tubing down the Little River, one of the most beautiful rivers in the area.
  • Rivermill Antique Mall: This family owned antique mall has a reputation for high priced finds at very low costs.

Despite its small town status, Townsend holds a number of big events and festivals throughout the year. Celebrate Appalachian arts and crafts during the Annual Heritage Festival in June, sample the rides and games of one of the largest county fairs in the state held every October, or watch the best lumberjacks in the country compete in chainsaw carving and ax throwing during the "Sawin' in the Smokies" Mountain Festival in October.

With properties ranging from beautiful cabins deep in the Smoky Mountain wilderness, to luxury condos with amazing views, there's a vacation rental available that's perfect for your time in Townsend.

If you have some extra time after you have explored the wilderness in and around Townsend, schedule a day trip to nearby Knoxville or the eclectic city of Chattanooga.

Perfect Forest Surrounded Relaxing Cabin

Absolutely love this cabin! The decor is just perfect but I'm a huge black bear fan Billie was great to talk with whenever needed. My favorite is the screened in porch has the swing those always take me back a "few" years! Just listening to the birds, crickets, stream, and other critters while relaxing was amazing! We did see a rabbit/bunny family in the little yard daily, we never did get to see the resident bear. For that we were very blessed this year to see them in Cades Cove twice and up by Chimney Tops we stopped in the road and seen a mama with her 3 cubs crossing the street. Elk are amazing and we've always been able to see them over on the Oconaluftee visitor center around 5:30. Thanks for allowing us to stay in your home and make it ours we plan on being back next year!see more

Fantastic!

We had our family reunion at the Elk lodge. It was an ideal setting. The kitchen was incredible. Lots of counter top space. Two refrigerators, two dishwashers, two sinks a large stove and oven. Lots of silverware and loads of dishes. The dining room had plenty of tables and chairs and a bar with a small refrigerator. At the other end of the room there was a large wood burning fireplace in a large room with a couch that wrapped around 3/4th of the room and a TV (which got very little use). Upstairs was a large room with a pingpong table and a pool table and a couch and a TV. The kids loved playing up there. The porch was lined with swings and rocking chairs over looking the pool. The pool is large and only 3 1/2 feet deep. This was ideal as we had young children in our group. And the swimmers were still able to swim laps. Since we rented the entire lodge, the families with young children could put the kids in bed and then come join the adults. If the kids woke up, they could follow the laughter to fine their parents.see more

Family/Group Lodge w/ Spectacular Mtn. Views/Hot Tub/GameTables/WIFI-Bear Lodge
great group retreat venue

I lead a women's retreat here and most of the 20 women, upon entering the lodge, asked, "Where did you find this place?" While not luxurious, this lodge is spacious, very comfortable, and designed for groups, with two large meeting areas in addition to the dining area. Extra tables and chairs allow for a variety of set-ups and activities. A big plus is that the manager lives on site. We had a plumbing issue, and a maintenance person came to the lodge within 15 minutes and corrected the problem in thirty.see more
Smoky Mountain River Bungalow
Perfect Location

Would have given this rental an excellent rating...but.... there was an issue with a musty, mold & mildew smell to the house. The other couple staying with us had to leave a day early because of this issue -- they both were on allergy medications and had problems with the musty/moldy smell. We did open the doors, but it did not help. We are bicyclists --the reason we choice this rental was the location which was perfect. There was an issue with the shower curtain rod in the master bath -- called the numbers provided and the issue was quickly taken care of. A minor complaint -- there weren't paper towels provided for use in the kitchen. If the issue of mold and mildew was not present in the house --- would have been perfect.see more
Moonshadow
Amazing views, cozy, lots of bear sightings (if you are into that)

Pros: The view from the cabin is spectacular, plenty of room for six, very comfortable beds, great showers, beautiful neighborhood, bears in the area (saw more than in Cades Cove), the porches are extremely relaxing with the swings and chairs, clean (other than the door knobs on the kitchen cabinets), peaceful, fairly secluded, welcoming, excellent WiFi, TVs in every room, great pool table (but only two pool sticks that aren’t broken), clean hot tub, cozy feel Cons: Of the two doors on the lowest level, the right one does not latch securely, which was a bit of a worry about bears or anyone else wanting to come in. All one has to do is shake the door a little and it opens. We had a bear stuck around the cabin all night long, and he would have been able to enter the cabin that way. DO NOT OUT TRASH (food or pop/soda cans) IN THE WOODEN GARBAGE BOX OUTSIDE THE CABIN!!! It will attract bears and they will be able to get into it. We learned that the hard way. It was pretty scary. If you are planning on cooking, bring your own pots and pans. There is only one usable pot in the kitchen, the others are not usable. Overall, we had a wonderful time in this cabin and made great memories. We watched a momma bear with her three cubs play for almost an hour, while we took tons of picture from the porch. We did have one scary encounter with a bear that hung around all night due to us using the trash container outside. He made quite a mess and gave us a sleepless night, but we learned a lot from the neighbors. Place a container with PineSol on the entrances of the stairs leading up to the cabin, to keep the bears from coming too close. Get rid of your trash at the areas trash compactor (it’s by the golf course - just follow the signs)see more
